Approximately 300 volunteers support Monroe
County Meals On Wheels by giving more than 11,000 hours of their time
each year to this vital community effort.
Volunteers are currently serving about 175 clients
per day on 10 delivery routes throughout the county.
You can volunteer on a regularly scheduled basis once a month, every
other week, once a week, on a fixed day, or as a substitute on an
emergency on-call basis. Stay-at-home moms are encouraged to pair up
with others (or we'll pair you up) and take the children along to
deliver.
Volunteers serve as:
DRIVERS:
These volunteers drive their own vehicles
as part of a team responsible for delivering meals on a preplanned
route.
VISITORS:
These volunteers deliver the meals to the client, encourage them to eat
the hot meal and refrigerate the cold meal. Also by visiting the client
the volunteer can hear concerns of the clients. Visitors provide a
security check and some friendly conversation to brighten client's day.
Volunteers must meet certain criteria as
follows:
- Must have a Pennsylvania drivers license
and provide a copy for our records
- Must have at least $100,000 / $300,000 worth
of liability insurance. A copy of the declaration page of their
insurance policy needs to be provided as proof of insurance.
Volunteers keep track of their own mileage, which is tax deductible.
Senior volunteers who register with R.S.V.P.
can receive some mileage reimbursement.
